From the "black forest" to the "white valley"

Day one : Toward Provence. Highest point : 5,100 feet.

Snow-shoes on, starting at 8.30 am, you will climb a short and steep slope to reach a crest that you will more or less follow on one and a half mile, in between the "Blanche" Range and the "Monges" Massif. Afterwards you will go down through a part of the ancient "black forest", to the charming pastures of "Charcherie", then reach the "Small Switzerland of Provence", which is the "Blanche" valley.

Day two : Toward the Alps. Highest point : 5,700 feet.

Leaving at 8.30 am, you will walk, wearing your snow-shoes,through wide forests of pines, spruces and larches, going up to the "Montagnette" pastures, in front of the "High Alps" Massifs, overhanging the "Serre-Ponçon" lake. Then you will come down an other way through forests until the "Saint-Jean" Pass, the link between the "Ubaye" and "Blanche" valleys.

 

Gradients : 900 feet up (day 1) + 1,800 feet up (day 2). Walking around 4 hours (day 1) + 5 hours (day 2).
